Highlights from our First Week Homeschooling
We’ve been homeschooling for 4 years now but this is my first time with all 3 of my children in class.
Usually, Adele goes with her Dad. She still stays as long as she can (playing and coloring) then goes to see Dad.
Caves
Henry showed me an article on Caves the other day and so I asked him if we should do a unit study on all things caves. He said yes!!!! So I set it all up and it was wonderful.
We read a Highlights article on caves (the one that piqued his interest), learned about speleologists and spelunkers. Got our spelunkers license after we explored a “cave” in our backyard.

In health, we talked about our 5 senses and so we used our senses to explore another “cave” in our basement—lights off and with only a flashlight to guide us. They loved it (video below).

We found some rocks to paint, made cave art to hang in our cave.

Played with a cave sensory bin, colored, and read a cave story.

We also watched a few YouTube videos on how caves are formed and Henry saw a thumbnail about the 13 kids in Thailand and their soccer coach that had been lost in a cave several years ago. So we watched that! It was very nerve-wracking!

This is Why…
All of this is why I love homeschooling so so much! We do the basics of learning like math and reading and then I ask them what should we learn about this week?

We made up a list of all of the things they want to learn about: volcanoes, robots, dinosaurs, Star Wars, rainbows, friends, explosive foam, and even unicorns! And the list goes on…

New Friends and a Pen Pal!
Finally, we finished the week off by joining some new friends at the beach and little Henry wrote to his new pen pal!

In an upcoming post, I can go into more detail on how I did everything!
Here’s a video we posted on YouTube of our adventures!
Homeschooling Adventures 01: Caves!
Be blessed!
