Out and About in Connecticut – My 8 Favorite Places to Visit
Having been born in Connecticut and lived all of my 37 years in this state, I can tell you there are many places to visit in Connecticut. I have been to almost every corner of the state and seen almost everything there is to see. Here are eight of my favorite places and hopefully it will inspire you to come and visit us too!
1 – Mystic, CT
One of my all-time favorite places to visit is Mystic, CT. This quaint small town is full of things to see. It’s home to the Mystic Seaport which has a museum and Mystic Aquarium with indoor and outdoor exhibits. I remember one Memorial Day years ago, they had an old-fashioned parade where people dressed up in colonial clothing.
Fun fact: it’s also home to Mystic Pizza which isn’t just a movie but a real restaurant!
2 – Fairfield, CT
Something fun that we like to visit around Christmastime is the Wonderland at Roseville. Each year and for many years, the owners of this house put on a dazzling display of lights for the holidays.

Mohegan Sun
3 – Uncasville, CT
There are two casinos in Connecticut. The first is Mohegan Sun situated about two hours from New York City. This wonderful casino boasts concerts, shops, a spa, and of course slots and tables for playing. This one is an hour from our house and the one we go to the most.

Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods Casino
4 – Ledyard, CT
The second casino is Foxwoods ! This one is even farther from our house, about an hour and a half away, but what I love about it is that Tanger Outlets is part of the casino. There are two Tanger Outlets in Connecticut, but this one is by far the best. The other Tanger Outlets is in Westbrook but I’m not a fan of its layout.

A car being raffled at Clinton Crossing Outlets
5 – Clinton, CT
Speaking of outlets, my favorite hands-down is Clinton Crossing Outlets located in its namesake, Clinton, CT. These are outdoor outlets and perfect for walking on a nice spring or fall day.
6 – Norwalk, CT
The next place I want to talk about is the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk. This aquarium boasts an IMAX theatre which I remember going to when I was in college. It’s huge!
7 – Bristol, CT
A fun adventure and water park that you can bring your children to is Lake Compounce. This park is fun for all ages and has a perk for its attendees: free drinks! There are refreshment stands all over and you can drink whatever is available anytime.

The Discovery Museum in Bridgeport, CT

Inside the Discovery Museum
8 – Bridgeport, CT
The last place I want to talk about is in my hometown: The Discovery Museum and Planetarium. I fell in love with this museum in the ‘80s when our teacher took us here for a class trip. When my nephews were little kids I brought them here in the 2000s and finally, now that I have kids I make sure to bring them here too!
So that’s a little piece of Connecticut. There are so many other great places to visit in Connecticut like the Mark Twain House, but I only wanted to write about places I’ve actually visited. I hope you’ve enjoyed this personal account of my home state and that you will visit one day!
